The Educational Institute of Scotland

In 2019 I illustrated a series of six booklets for the Educational Institute of Scotland to welcome young people from migrant and refugee families to school in Scotland.

The Welcome Packs are specific to three age ranges and inform young people and their parents of their rights as students in Scottish education. The booklets convey a positive, welcoming message to young people about Scotland as their new home.

The booklets included in the packs aim to give newly arrived young people and their families some information about school education in Scotland, as well as some background about Scotland itself by way of introduction to the country.

The packs were launched at a special event at Hillhead High School in Glasgow, and are distributed throughout schools across Scotland. They are currently in print in 10 languages and available as an audiobook.

For Refugee Week, the Educational Institute of Scotland made a short film that shows the journey of the Welcome Packs that extend a warm welcome to migrant and refugee children arriving at Scottish schools.

In 2023 the Educational Institute of Scotland decided to build on this resource. I am currently working with them to produce a storybook for children ages 2-5 welcoming them to nursery and showing them what a typical day of learning and play might look like for them.
